Hi again,

My doctor gave me two medications as stated abovve--does anyone know which one is for bacterial vaginosis and which one is for a yeast infection?

Also, my doctor said I had an enlarged uterous...with these symptoms...negative urine test for pg, but she is taking blood. does anyone know the cause of a large uterous?

Did your doctor do an ultrasound to arrive at your "enlarged uterus" dx? Or is it just suspicion based on exams? An enlarged uterus can be attributed to fibroids, adenomyosis, Endometriosis, scarring from previous surgery or infection, hormonal changes throughout the month (i.e., the size will increase and decrease throughout your cycle), or other conditions ranging from benign to malignant. If you are concerned, insist that further diagnostics are performed to ensure an accurate diagnosis and subsequent effective treatment based on the condition.

I may have bacterial vaginosis, what now?

I haven't been diagnosed yet, but I think I may have the right symptoms for bacterial vaginosis (foul smell, itchy). I'm on my period so I don't know if I'm having weird discharge. I also just lost my virginity, which I heard can add to the cause (new sexual partner).
I've never been to a gynecologist. I want to seek treatment/diagnosis from a doctor but this is something that I can't let my parents find out about; should I go to Planned Parenthood, or can I go to a gynecologist w/o my parents finding out? Also I'm not sure how I'd pay for all of this so would Planned Parenthood be free?

ALSO, are there any home remedies I can try in the meantime (I've heard yogurt)?

First off if you are just going off of foul smell & itchy you might be over reacting. There are many other issues with those symptoms. It does not matter where you go they are not allowed to discuss your visit with your parents. Look into your state because some states do have loop holes where they can call your parents on certain cases (i.e. pregnancy, etc in a minor). Planned Parenthood goes off of your income, Health Department goes off of your income. My recommendation: Talk to your mother. She may be upset for a while but she WILL appreciate you being honest with her.

If you do yogurt it has to be plain yogurt...

I have bacterial vaginosis, what happens if I don't take the Flagyl? Will it clear up on its own? the symptoms arent that bad just annoying. I know it sounds stupid but I wanted to drink this weekend and I know I'll get sick if I drink on Flagyl. I just wondered if anyone had this experience.

You need to take the meds., but BV in not life threatening and you can wait until the weekend is over. My OBGYN told me to do a little natural cure. This may sound crazy, but it works. Buy some OB tampons and soak one in Hydrogen Peroxide for 30 seconds then insert it into your vagina. Leave it in there for 3 to five minutes then take it out. She told me to do this every couple of months. Your BF most likely will have to be treated as well. If he doesn't you will keep passing it back and forth. The OB tampon/hydrogen peroxide trick will keep you from smelling bad down there.

What Exactly Is It, And How Can I Sort It Out?

I asked a related question a while back about this. As before, if you're sensitive to subjects involving the female 'down below', I suggest you look away now.

For the last few months, I have been experiencing relativley heavy discharge, and also a kind of unpleasant scent from down there. I'm really hygenic and everything, but I don't use any soaps or chemicals. I'm not sexually active either. It seems to clear up when I'm on my period, but maybe a week after my period, it comes back.

I've been looking into some of the main female problems that sound kind of like this, you know, Bacterial Vaginosis, Yeast Infections, Thrush etc, and I was wondering whether you guys knew whether this sounded anything like either of these infections, and whether I should be worried?
If so, are there any natural remedies I can use to cure whatever it is that I have?

I've recently resorted to washing a little bit more regularly and using looser underwear, but it still seems to be a problem, especially at school, what with the awkward scent and all, and it's kind of worrying me.

I REALLY do not want to have to consult my mother, or any doctors or anything, especially if it turns out that I have nothing to worry about. But if it sounds like a major problem, I guess I will have to :S

You can see a family doctor you trust and have him/her do the swab to see what kind of infection you have. If not then see a gynecologist. Girls can get yeast infections from taking antibiotics, hanging out in wet bathing suits, not drying well enough after a shower, and other things. They can also get bacterial infections there as well because the rectum is so close to the vagina and it's breeding grounds. Each type requires different treatment and if you treat it wrong you may become immune to the proper treatment of one thing. Now if the discharge is in the middle of your cycle like on day 14 from the first day of bleeding then it could be related to ovulation when the discharge normally gets heavier around that time. However because it seems to be a problem with a smell it's best to get it checked out. I've had bacterial infections in the past that only gave me a heavier discharge and that's all it was. The culture was the thing that came back positive that said I needed treatment. Sometimes a doctor will do a culture if you're having discharge or any itching issues. I recommend you get seen so you don't have to worry anymore. You don't need to be sexually active to get an infection. Girls get infections without having sex and some get infections shortly after having sex like "honeymoon cystitis" which can occur after a girl starts having sex. It requires a diagnosis and treatment.

If you're not comfortable with talking to your mom about it how about another family member? Believe it or not I felt more comfortable talking to my dad about things because he was the one that talked to me when I had questions when my mom would be to embarrassed to talk with me. It's better to get it checked out now and be sure you don't have something then to continue worrying about it.I like Dove for sensative skin to wash with and plain water. Good luck.

Edited: If you are going to use something over the counter make sure you consult your doctor. The instructions on the package says that if it's the first time you've experienced and itch or symptoms to consult your doctor. It doesn't sound like you are having symptoms of a yeast infection and to me it sounds more bacterial if anything. You'd be a lot more miserable, red, very itchy, and may have cottage cheese like discharge.

yeast infection/bacterial vaginosis?

i went to the doctor 2 months ago with a yeast infection and the doctor gave me one pill to take because she said it was only a mild infection and probably caused by antibiotics i was on before. over the next two weeks it still didnt feel right down there.. the pill seemed to have helped but my discharge was still thick (paste-like) and had a weird smell. then it got worse..it started itching really bad.. it was so uncomfortable. so i went back to the doctor and this time she told me it was bacterial vaginosis... even though it felt exactly the same as before only worse. she gave me 14 pills and told me to take them twice a day for 7 days. i did this. the pills made my mouth dry and taste like metal and my pee dark and smell horrible but i kept taking them. this was two weeks ago and STILL something feels wrong. my discharge is still thick (not AS thick as before but thicker than when everything felt normal).. and every once in a while it gets a slight itching feeling, a tickling feeling almost, that only stays for a few minutes. my "down there" doctor isnt covered on my insurance and i can't afford to keep going back!
i'm hoping someone could help me treat this problem myself. if i treated it like a yeast infection and used monistat and it ended up being BV would that make it worse? what are some home remedies for bv? any info you have please share!
